Senior Advisor
David Christianson is the senior advisor with Wellington West Total Wealth Management Inc, the fee-only financial planning and Portfolio Manager (Restricted) division of the Wellington West Group of Companies. This team was awarded Independent Financial Advisor Team of the Year by the London-based Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) for 2010/2011, in competition with firms from around the world.
David has been a practicing financial planner since 1982, receiving his Chartered Financial Planner's Certificate in 1986, becoming a Registered Financial Planner in 1988, a Certified Financial Planner in 1996, and a Trust and Estate Practitioner in 1999. His positive reputation has been built on his unique ability to make complex concepts understandable and the way he helps his clients get in touch with their true life goals and priorities.
As a comprehensive financial planner, his experience and expertise includes strategic planning, tax, trust and estate planning, pensions, real estate, limited partnerships, life insurance and the full range of conventional investments.
David is immediate past chair of the Winnipeg Chapter of STEP and former national vice president responsible for ethics and standards of the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners. He was awarded the Advisor of the Year award in 2002 and the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (CAFP) Member of Distinction award for 2001. David has also served as National Director of Ethics for the CAFP and President of the Manitoba Chapter.
Since 1994, David has written the weekly column Dollars and Sense for the Winnipeg Free Press, and has received the CAFP Multi-Media Award for public education in financial planning. He is author of The Structure of Client-Centred Practices, a certificate course for planners and advisors.
David was also presented with the Canada 125th Commemorative Medal in 1992 by Governor General Ramon Hnatyshyn, in recognition of volunteer leadership and community involvement, for his wide ranging community activities.
