John D. Rothwell

John Rothwell leads Wellington West’s aggressive expansion efforts, securing the top advisor teams in select affluent markets across Canada. John is an essential member of Wellington West’s senior management team, driving revenue, profitability growth and, most importantly, the ongoing influx of talented people.

John joined Wellington West as Executive Vice President and Partner in 2003 with a mandate to expand the firm into Eastern Canada. In 2005, he was promoted to President of Wellington West Capital with primary responsibility for recruiting, building branch growth and revenue.

From 1998 until 2003, John was Managing Director and Executive Vice President at Fidelity Investments, the world’s largest mutual fund company. Prior to Fidelity, he was the National Sales Manager and Executive Vice President for Mackenzie Financial, where he was responsible for sales and distribution.

John began his career in sales in 1977 at a predecessor firm of Midland Walwyn Capital Inc. During his 18-year tenure at Midland, John's focus on enhancing productivity led him to rapid advancement through the company’s sales and management ranks. He was named Ontario Sales Manager in 1984, National Sales Manager in 1989, and assumed additional responsibilities as Executive Vice President and member of Midland’s Executive Committee in 1993.

John has served on various Investment Dealer Association (IDA) committees, and chaired the IDA Mutual Fund Committee. He presently is a member of the IDA’s Retail Sales Council.

John received his Honours Bachelors degree from the University of Waterloo in 1977, where he played and later coached varsity athletics. He has received diplomas from McGill University, The Wharton School and Harvard University.
