Charlie Spiring
Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Wellington West Holdings Inc.
As founder and CEO of one of Canada’s leading independently owned investment firms, Wellington West Capital Inc., Charlie has continuously demonstrated his leadership in the financial services industry and capital market development in Canada.
Working closely with the President and the Board of Directors, Charlie oversees and guides the overall growth strategy for Wellington West. He works directly with clients and is actively involved in the recruitment of top talent to the firm's management and advisor teams.
Prior to forming Wellington West, Charlie was a Senior Vice President and Director of Midland Walwyn Capital Inc., which, at the time, was Canada’s largest independently owned retail investment firm. During his 13-year tenure with Midland Walwyn, Charlie consistently ranked as the firm’s top annual producer among nearly 1,000 financial advisors nationwide.
In 1993, Charlie left Midland Walwyn to open Wellington West, an independent investment advisory boutique in Winnipeg. The firm was founded with four experienced advisors with a total of eight employees and $200 million in AUA. Their business strategy was to form a top quality locally focused investment boutique, fully owned by the advisors who served their clients. Since that time, Wellington West has grown into a coast-to-coast organization with full-service brokerage, financial planning, asset management and capital markets capabilities. The award-winning firm currently represents over 50,000 client accounts and manages nearly $10 billion in assets under administration. Under Charlie's leadership, Wellington West has completed corporate finance issues well in excess of $3.5 billion.
Charlie was chosen as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 1996. He is actively involved with numerous philanthropic organizations across the country, with a definite bias for Manitoba. Charlie is on the board of the Investment Industry Association of Canada and is a member of the Young Presidents Organization.
